Sober Tools / Support

A little guidance.

Getting started, checking a reference, and finding the right place for help.

Getting started

  1. Open Big Book Companion in ChatGPT and follow the instructions shown there.
  2. Begin with a phrase, a topic, a chapter, or a Step you want to explore.
  3. Ask for page references and context, then compare the answer with your copy of the Fourth Edition.

Try: “Find passages about willingness and give me the printed page numbers.”

Common questions

Is Big Book Companion free?

Yes. Sober Tools does not charge a fee to use Big Book Companion within ChatGPT. ChatGPT’s usage limits and account requirements still apply. Any ChatGPT subscription is separate.

What if ChatGPT says I have reached a limit?

Follow the availability or reset information shown in ChatGPT. Big Book Companion cannot change or bypass platform limits. For account, subscription, or access issues, visit ChatGPT platform support.

What if a quotation or page reference looks wrong?

Check the result against the Fourth Edition of Alcoholics Anonymous. Ask the companion to verify the wording, provide chapter context, and distinguish the book’s printed page number from a PDF page number. AI-generated responses can be mistaken, so use the original text as the reference.

Can it replace my sponsor?

No. It is a reference and study aid. Bring questions and reflections to your A.A. sponsor and fellowship. It does not provide medical, mental-health, or addiction-treatment advice.

Is this an official A.A. resource?

No. Sober Tools and Big Book Companion are independent and are not affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed, or approved by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc., Alcoholics Anonymous, or any A.A. service entity.

Do I need to share personal information?

You can ask for passages, chapter context, and study prompts without giving your name or private history. Avoid identifying information about other people. See the Privacy Policy for the distinction between this website and using ChatGPT.
